Operating and supporting IT systems requires a wide range of process and systems knowledge from our colleagues, depending on the job. At Cloud Services, the knowledge required to manage operating systems, databases and servers (Linux, AIX, Windows, Solaris, Oracle, MSSQL, MAXDB, x86, PowerPC platforms) is a priority. Some of the teams require a networking background (Cisco, Juniper, Checkpoint, F5, ADVA) or a development background (PERL, Shellscript, PL/SQL, HTML, JS, PHP, Java). Monitoring colleagues must be proficient in server, OS, performance, application, database.

The competences expected include knowledge of corporate management systems (SAP) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V), storage and backup knowledge (SAN, NAS, Netup, Veritas) or high availability (Cluster, Failover, Loadbalancer, DR). For the vast majority of colleagues, a thorough knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Order Management) is required for day-to-day work.

In the area of public cloud services, our colleagues provide complete solutions, migration and other technical consulting to our customers on leading cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. On the other hand, T-Systems’ own cloud platform, the Open Telekom Cloud based on OpenStack, is continuously developed and operated, providing reliable, secure and sovereign European cloud services from our data centres in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Career opportunities

Cloud Services has highly skilled, internationally recognized experts in the above areas, but it’s not uncommon to go from an internship to a top job in a few years, so the division is keen to invest in young talents.

We believe it’s important for colleagues from different professional backgrounds to regularly share experiences and discuss different perspectives, so for years we have been an active part of the professional community space, supporting meetups, professional events where our colleagues can talk not only with each other, but also with representatives of the largest internationally known manufacturers and other members of the global community, learn about the latest technologies and inspire each other to improve.
